Officers in attendance: Tami East, Sheila Taylor, Rhonda Eads, Carrie Tuttle Total of 12 in attendance
State competition is Saturday! GCHS will be performing at 2:15 at Eastern High School in Louisville. Announcements for finals will be at 3:15.
We will be assembling treat bags for the band members on Thursday night after they have their supper (around 6-6:30). Come to the high school to help, if you can.
We would like to provide snacks for the kids after finals. Donations are being accepted of beef jerky, fruit (apples & bananas), and cheese & crackers. We have plenty of sweets.
Fruit sales will start the last couple of weeks in November. Lisa Bryant from Kentucky Farm Bureau will be helping us with that. Thanks, Lisa!
Rhonda Eads brought up the possibility of selling country hams from the Amish. More info will be obtained on that.
There were lots of stuffed animals left over from the Fall Festival. It was discussed to give them to the police to use for children when they have to be removed from their homes.
Meeting was adjourned at 7:26 pm.
Our own band director, Mr. Chris Vance, has been recognized by SBO Magazine as one of the top 50 directors in the USA who make a difference. Those of us who have had the pleasure of getting to work with him already knew that, but it is great to see his good work acknowledged in this way. Read the full article here.
The Garrard Marching Lions placed 4th in their division at the State Championships at WKU in 2011! Congratulations to all!
On October 15, 2011 the band placed 1st in the AAA division, and were Reserve Grand Champions (missed it by less than 1 point!) at the South Laurel competition. The band played their full show and did a beautiful job of it. Way to go!
On September 10 the Garrard County Marching Band placed 2nd in the AAA division at the competition in Danville. Considering that they were unable to use their backdrops due to field conditions, and that the show is not yet complete, this is a great start for the season. Congratulations to all band and guard members, and thanks to all of the parents and fans that have been supporting the band with their volunteer efforts and donations!
